Irish Wheaten Bread tastes great with marmalade, jam or cheddar cheese. Toast it with breakfast, add some thick cheese and pickle for a filling sandwich. It's a versatile and truly delightful bread.

Recipe Ingredients

  • 4 cups of whole wheat flour
  • 1 1/2 cups of buttermilk
  • 2 tbl of sugar
  • 1 1/2 tbl baking soda
  • 1 tbl salt, for seasoning

How To Make

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 F and butter up a medium sized loaf pan.
  2. Mix together the flour, baking soda, salt and sugar in a bowl.
  3. All all of the buttermilk and mix thoroughly until it reaches a doughy substance.
  4. Using a lightly floured surface, kneed the dough.
  5. Place the dough in the buttered pan and bake for roughly 50 mins.
  6. Take out of the oven and let it cool.
  7. Slice and serve. Perfect with your favourite Irish tea.
