Home : Recipes : Bread : Irish Soda Bread Recipe

There is nothing quite like a few slices of homemade Soda bread in a fry to get your day started. It's also great for toasting and tastes fabulous with marmalade, jam or cheddar cheese.

Recipe Ingredients

  • 1 cup of self raising flour
  • 1 cup of buttermilk
  • 1 tbl baking soda
  • 1/2 tbl salt, for seasoning

How To Make

  1. Get all the ingredients together and mix them thoroughly.
  2. Move the mixture onto a floured surface and kneed together for a few minutes, 4 or 5 should be more than enough.
  3. Kneed into a rough circle and cut into slices, just like a pizza.
  4. Put your slices onto a floured griddle, preheated to about 350 F, and let each side cook for about 5 minutes.
  5. Soda farls are perfect for a hearty breakfast! Serve as part of a traditional Irish breakfast.
