Irish Barm Brack is delicious with cheese and branson pickle. Team up a few slices with a brew of Barry's Classic or Gold Blend and you'll have yourself the perfect afternoon tea break!

Recipe Ingredients

  • 8 cups of self raising flour
  • 2 cups of mixed dried fruit
  • 1/2 cup of warmed milk
  • 2oz caster sugar
  • 1 beaten egg
  • 3 tbl butter
  • 1 tbl yeast
  • 1 tbl salt, for seasoning

How To Make

  1. Mix the yeast and sugar and add to the warmed milk, allowing it to froth up.
  2. Mix in the flour, caster sugar and butter..
  3. With your hands, make a crater in the center and add the yeast mixture with the beaten egg.
  4. Add in the fruit and work them in evenly.
  5. Place in a bowl and set in a warmed oven for about an hour, allowing it to rise.
  6. Kneed quite lightly and place in a greased cake tin, allowing it to rise for another half hour.
  7. Place in a preheated oven at 400 F for about 45 minutes.
  8. Take out of the oven and let it cool off gradually.
  9. Serve with a cup of your favourite Irish tea for a great snack!
